Woods - The Dark
I found this little gem from NYC’s Woods the other day and can’t stop playing it. Just over two minutes of lo-fi freak/psych-folk with androgenous vocals that make it feel like the soundtrack to some stoned fairy-tale set in the forest during a full moon; hey that’s what I hear anyway. A little research introduced me to Captured Tracks the Brooklyn based record label releasing this 7” single in March.
“Sunlit” is actually the A-side of this release with “The Dark” on the flip but to my ears it is easily the stronger of the two.
I find it funny that Captured Tracks is set to release material from quite a few great bands this year yet their sole internet presence is a myspace page. Looking for an official website I kept getting linked back to Newscorp’s social networking ghetto. Seriously guys?? Then again good music is good music no matter where you find it and I suppose myspace is still the easiest way to get it out there.
