Blank Dogs
Blank Dogs’ new LP “Land and Fixed” is the best thing I’ve heard so far from this prolific gentleman.  Halfway through my first listen I had to run over to Capture Tracks (his label) and pre-order the LP.  Between this, Beach Fossils, and Wild nothings Captured Tracks has really been the source for a lot of my favorite new music the last few months.   Blank Dogs...

Dominant Legs
I’ve been playing the hell out of the handful of Dominant Legs’ songs I could get my hands on for the past few weeks, anxiously awaiting new songs or at least news of future releases.  I just found out that singer/guitarist Ryan Lynch has joined Girls; another great band but I really hope he finds the time to keep making his own music.

New Atlas Sound
Bradford recently posted another free digital EP on his Deerhunter/Atlas Sound blog.  I’ve never heard of Five Discs but I really like what he did with their song “Doctor.”  I’ll have to check out the orginal

Memory Cassette
Memory Cassette make beautiful music and seem to be keen on giving it away through their blog We’re Tapes.  Sincerely Yours (Tough Alliance record label) & Acephale (home to Salem) are co-releasing their debut 7” ep “Call & Response” this month.  I’m particularly fond of this alternate take to “Last One Awake” that I found on their blog.  It...

Discovery - LP
Discovery is Ra Ra Riot singer Wes Miles and Vampire Weekend keyboardist/producer Rostam Batmanglij. LP is their debut album out XL Recordings July 7th.  I’ve been itching for bass heavy, distorted fun pop music like this for a long time.  Passion Pit scratched it when they dropped “Sleepyhead” but nothing they have put out since has done it for me like Discovery.  Don’t...

New Lightning Dust
First taste of the new Lightning Dust full length Infinite Light dropping on Jagjaguwar August 8th.  I enjoyed their self-titled debut from a few years back but if this tune is any indication they have really stepped their game up since then.

Aziz Ansari is funny
Aziz Ansari went on kimmel the other night to promote, among other things, the new Apatow/Sandler movie “Funny People.”  In the first clip he talks about his cousin beefing with Kanye and his character in the movie, a comedian that goes by Raaaaaandy and can best be described “like if Soulja Boy did comedy.” I like everything Apatow does so I was already hyped about this...

Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
Mark your calenders; on June 9th Brooklyn’s Dirty Projectors will release their fifth full-length album Bitte Orca on Domino Records.  I’ll be picking up the 2xLP because Domino is smart enough to include a download code that grants you access to 320kbp MP3s.  Other labels take note; this is how to sell albums in 2009.  When I buy a CD the first thing I do is rip it into my iTunes...

Kid Cudi
One of my all time favorite songs is Múm’s “Green Grass of Tunnel” and one of my favorite new artists is Kid Cudi.  “Man on the Moon” from his 2008 Mix Tape Kid Named Cudi is backed by Nosaj Thing’s “Aquarium” which sounds like it heavily samples the Múm track.  I haven’t been able to confirm this but see for yourself; maybe I’m just...

Sunset Rubdown - Dragonslayer
It feels like forever since Sunset Rubdown’s stellar Random Spirit Lover dropped but in actuality it was only a year and a half ago.  I’ll be marking my calendar until June 23rd when Jagjaguwar releases their third album Dragonslayer.  I noticed that the tracklisting features “Paper Lace” which is also included on the new release Enemy Mine from Swan Lake one of Spencer...

Passion Pit-Manners
According to Passion Pit’s studio blog their debut full length Manners was done at the beginning of February but we don’t get to hear it in the US until…..May26th.  I was already anxiously awaiting this one but after seeing the picture below taken during a recording session (the story behind it) I don’t know how I can wait that long. Maybe it would be easier if they would...

Wounded Lion - Pony People
Another day another 7” B-side that should be the A.  This one from LA’s Wounded Lion.  I don’t know anything about these dudes but I gather from the lyrics that these guys are sadist sagittarius centaurs…..  If that isn’t your scene you may still dig the crunchy guitar and fuzzy organ.

Woods - The Dark
I found this little gem from NYC’s Woods the other day and can’t stop playing it.  Just over two minutes of lo-fi freak/psych-folk with androgenous vocals that make it feel like the soundtrack to some stoned fairy-tale set in the forest during a full moon; hey that’s what I hear anyway.  A little research introduced me to Captured Tracks the Brooklyn based record label...
